MY
REFLECTION ESSAY ABOUT MY EGGPLANT PROJECT
From this project I learn
that the importance of growing an eggplant which is one of the beneficial vegetables
that humans consume every day and the growing techniques on growing the
eggplant without any harm against pests and insects. There are some new things
that I have studied which is the genes that involve in eggplant growth. Some
things that I think that will never happen actually happen when I use some of
the unhealthy seeds, I encountered all of the seeds manage to grow healthy
plants and this shocked me. The issue that I have to face when growing the
eggplant is that
the requirements of growing the eggplant is very demanding. To grow the eggplant
more effectively, it must be in full sun sheltered from the wind and it prefers
well-drained soil rich in organic matter. So, I must always add aged compost to
each planting hole but not too many since compost increases heat of the soil
and make it dehydrate. Also, I need to always keep the soil evenly moist, not
too wet and must not let the soil dry out. Otherwise the plant may perish
quickly. Since it is the monsoon season, I need to be extra careful on when to
keep it outside or inside to prevent the soil from becoming too wet until it
defects the eggplant stability. This project has made me thinking on how to
always meet the conditions to have a successful growing plant by always
analysing the current environment and based on this information, I must always
keep in check and do not waste my time doing unnecessary actions.
The biggest problem in the project
for me was time management. I am a procrastinator and always have been, so
completing assignments on time was and still is a challenge for me. I have not
come to a full solution to this problem yet, but I did make changes in my life
as to how I can manage time management. I found that it was easier for me to arrange
my house work and my project in balance so I will not jumble all of them. With problems
came hidden strengths I discovered about myself. I’ve never thought of myself
as a partner, but because i used group thinking in more than one occasion, I
found that I am a good leader. I communicate my ideas to my partner while
trying to balance the ideas of my partner to come an agreed upon decision.
Other than this, I can’t think of any other strength I discovered. I don’t
think of myself as egotistical, but honestly, I am pretty happy with the way I
am and find it hard to think of strengths I don’t already possess.
Moreover, this project has some
similarity in the course that I had studied in plant morphology and development
topic which I am able to classify in which group of the plant. Based on what I
studied, the eggplant is a tracheophyte which
is defined as vascular plants that have lignified tissues (the xylem) for conducting water and minerals
throughout the plant. They also have a specialized non-lignified tissue
(the phloem) to
conduct products of photosynthesis. It is also an angiopsperm plant that shows some characteristics
including flowers, endosperm within
their seeds, and
the production of fruits that contain the seeds. Etymologically,
angiosperm means a plant that produces seeds within an enclosure; in other
words, a fruiting plant. From this study, I am able to identify the crucial
parts that a plant is necessary for its survival and the pathways that they
need to conduct in order to transfer its nutrients and gases throughout the
plant.
